Hulon Hershall Riche Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Funeral services for Hulon Hershall Riche, 89 of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday March 15, 2007 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Rev. Rick Crandall officiating . Interment to follow at Garden of Memories in Minden, Louisiana with full military honors under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA Hulon Hershall Riche was born in Cornville, Mississippi on March 8, 1918 to Thomas J. and Eunice Torrence Riche and passed away March 12, 2007 at his home. He grew up on a farm in Oak Grove, Louisiana, attended schools in Oak Grove and was Valedictorian of Oak Grove High School, Class of 1934. After high school, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, building roads in North Louisiana. He graduated with honors from Louisiana State University in 1940, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering. He received a commission in the United States Marine Corps, and he served in the Marines for 22 years. He attained the rank of Colonel. During his career in the Marines, he served his country in a variety of assignments. He took part in the Pacific Theater of World War II, seeing action on Saipan, Tinian and Guam. After the war was over, his Marine Corps assignments took him to Arlington, Virginia; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Camp Pendleton, California; Yokosuka, Japan; and Camp San Onofre, California. While at San Onofre, he was Commanding Officer of the Second Infantry Training Regiment. He retired from the Marines in 1962 and returned to Louisiana, where he became a Certified Life Underwriter for Southwestern Life Insurance Company for over 20 years. His later years were spent volunteering for West Ouachita Senior Center of West Monroe. He worked in the garden and the greenhouses, helping to raise many beautiful vegetables and plants, and sharing his knowledge of farming with other volunteers. He loved the Center, and said that he felt very close to God when he worked with the plants. He was a faithful member of McClendon Baptist Church for many years. In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Hadwin Riche; son, Charles Lacy Riche; and sister, Clelia Catholine Riche. Survivors include his wife, Judith McDonald Riche of West Monroe; daughter, Jane Riche Jones of Hixson, Tennessee; step-daughters Laurel McDonald White of Alexandria, Louisiana and Meredith McDonald Smith of Monroe, Louisiana; granddaughters, Samantha Lynn Jones of The Woodlands, Texas; and Ella Rose Smith of Monroe, Louisiana; grandson, Charles Bradley Riche of Bossier City, Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Riche Patrick and James H. Patrick of Memphis, Tennessee; brother and sister-in-law, Norman C. and Shirley Mead Riche of Hamilton, New Zealand; Aunt Esther Powell of Radcliff, Kentucky; cousin Carolyn Gunter of Kitchen≠s Mill, South Carolina; dear friend Lodie Stewart of West Monroe, Louisiana; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Wade Bishop, Richard McMillan, Jason Smith, Jimmy White, George Edward Meredith, and Garland Meredith. Honorary pallbearers are fellow volunteers from the West Ouachita Senior Center of West Monroe.
