Funeral services for Mr. Huey Pierce Roberts, 89, of Farmerville, LA will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Farmerville with Rev. Kurt Auger officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. till time of service. Interment will be held in Epps Cemetery in Epps LA under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA.
Huey Pierce “Sleepy” Roberts went to his heavenly home on September 17, 2020. Huey was born in Rayville, La on November 30,1930 to Jerry and Lulla May Avants Roberts. Huey graduated from Delhi High School and Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science in 1954 and Master’s Degree in 1964. After graduating in 1954, Huey entered the United State Air Force for four years being stationed at F.E. Warren AFB in Wyoming and then in Japan where he reached the rank of Captain. Huey married the love of his life, Betty Jo Raley, on June 15, 1956. He went to work for the second love of his life, LSU, in the LSU Extension service where he worked as a county agent for the entirety of his career. Huey said many times that he was so blessed to have a job he loved. He truly loved his FFA and 4-H members that he helped throughout his life. Huey spent the majority of his career in Union Parish. Huey also raised registered Angus, falling in love with the breed at the age of six, when he traded a pocket knife for his first Angus calf. After retirement from the Extension service in 1988, Huey started a second career as a American Breeders Service sales agent.
Huey is preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Raley Roberts, his parents Jerry and Lulla May Roberts, his grandson, Addison Pierce Taliaferro, brothers Jerry Lee Roberts, Cecil Roberts, Luther W. Roberts, Carlton F. Roberts, and Houston C. Roberts, sister Christine Roberts Ratcliff and nephew Todd Roberts.
Huey is survived by his children – Phyllis Roberts Rambin (Mark), Suzonne Roberts Taliaferro, Randy Blake Roberts, Joseph Pierce Roberts (Sheryl), grandchildren – Tara Rambin Murphy ( Ricky), Raley Taliaferro (Lauren), Brittany Rambin, Tyler Roberts, Gabe Roberts (Kelsy), and Sadie Roberts. Great grandchildren- Kendyl Moore-Taliaferro, Gavin and Avery Lynn Murphy, Whitman Taliaferro and Colt Roberts. Throughout Huey’s life he always put God and family first. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Farmerville First Baptist Church for many years. Huey never faltered in his faith or commitment to the Lord. He was most certainly welcomed into heaven hearing the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
