Visitation for Henrietta M. Slaton of Ruston, LA, will be held Monday, November 30th, Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, 12 noon-1 pm. Graveside services will follow at 2pm, Longstraw Cemetery, Choudrant, LA, Father Tony Posadas, OFM will officiate the service under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Mrs. Slaton was born June 8, 1936 in Durango, Colorado to Vincent and Lillian Romero Medina. She passed away November 25, 2020 after a battle with lung fibrosis.
She was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ruston since moving to Ruston in 1963 with husband, Willie B. Slaton who longed to return to his native Louisiana to raise their family. She served with St. Vincent de Paul and wholeheartedly volunteered and supported the many endeavors the church had. Most important to her were the people she met and the friendships made during her 57 years as a parishioner.
She retired from the Lincoln Parish School Board in 1996 after working 30 years in the cafeteria at Hillcrest Elementary.
Henrietta loved to travel. Visiting her family in Utah was an annual trip. She travelled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. She often travelled with her grandsons when they were young, her granddaughter and her daughter. Holidays were a particular favorite time; having family gathered and traditions shared.
Mrs. Slaton was preceded in death by her husband Willie B. Slaton, her parents Vincent and Lillian Medina, her brothers Raymond Medina, Manuel Medina, Richard Medina and John Medina, her sisters Louise Raybals and Alice Miera.
Left to cherish her memory are sisters Cecilia Mansanarez of Toole, UT; Patricia Thornton of Grand Junction, CO; Evelyn Montoya and Margie Valdez of Toole, UT; son, Steve Medina (Blanca) of Monterrey, MX; daughter, Margie Skipper (Wayne) of Ruston, LA; five grandchildren, Danny Galindo and Stephanie Medina, Monterrey, MX ; Steven W.
