Helen Louise Hughes Jackson, age 94, of Shreveport, La., passed away peacefullyand entered the gates of heaven on May 15, 2020.
She is survived by her son, Joe Jackson, and wife, Clare, of Millbrook, AL.; granddaughter, Donna Jackson, and husband, Jeremy, of Prattville, AL; grandson, Barry Jackson, and wife, Amy, of Prosper, TX; granddaughter Terri Greene, and husband, Mike, of Apple Valley, CA; granddaughter, Joanna Schumacher and husband, Jonathan, of Marysville, WA; granddaughter, Tanya Torres, and husband, Juan, of Marysville, WA; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Robert “Bob” Hughes; two sisters, Ann Hinds and Betty Lou Richardson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Willie EdgarJackson, and daughter, Janie Mueller. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Earnest J. Hughes and Ruthie Caroline Shelton Hughes; two brothers, Shirley “Chuck” Hughes and Howard “Bud” Hughes; and four sisters, Ernestine Hinton, Mary Nell Bird, Oma Lee Thornhill-Smith and Sue Caldwell.
Helen was born on February 14, 1926, in Clayton, La., as the fourth of ten children. She graduated from Ferriday High School in Ferriday, La. Helen and Edgar married on April 13, 1945, and enjoyed 57 years together. They lived in Monroe, La., for many years where they managed a mobile home park, and Helen worked as a skilled seamstress who helped many men, women and families with clothing alterations. Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl, and openly shared her love for the Lord with family and friends. She loved reading her Bible, and listening to and singing hymns, and was an active church member in all stages of her life. Most recently, she was a member of Pinecroft Baptist Church in Shreveport.Helen was also a breast cancer survivor, living the last 40+ years of her life cancer free.
The family will be forever grateful for the kind, compassionate and professional care provided by the staff of Southern Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and Intensive Specialty Hospital, both in Shreveport. They also appreciate the love, concern and personal care provided by Helen’s niece, Sherry Hinds, in recent months.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, May 21, at 10 a.m., at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, La., under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
