A memorial service for Hazel Walls Centanni, who died February 6, 2018, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February10, 2018 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe with Brother KeithRobertsofficiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Hazel was born July 12, 1932 in Hazel, Minnesota to Charles Eli and Blanche Johnson Walls. The family moved to West Monroe when Hazel was about seven years old. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1950 and spent much of her local working career in the insurance business. In the 1960s Hazel moved to New Orleans and spent over fifty years living in New Orleans and then Metairie. Hazel married Michael J Centanni June 18, 1966. They spent many happy years together until Mike death in June of 2013. During these years Hazel continued to work in the insurance industry. When she retired she enjoyed her hobbies of needlework and gardening. She and Mike enjoyed the activities in the seniors clubs where they were members. Hazel also cared for her mother in law during Mrs Centanni long fight with cancer until she passed away.After Mike death, Hazel moved to West Monroe to be near her family. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike, her mother and father in law, Salvador and Sarah DeSalvo Centanni, her sister Viola Hutson, her brother Carl, her nephew, Randy Hutson and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Hazel is survived by her sister, Judy W Poole and husband, Donald of West Monroe, her brother James Walls and wife Kay of League City, Texas. Hazel is also survived by special nieces, Brenda Adkins and husband, Blaine, Lori Hutson and Lindsey Hutson of Baton Rouge, and Kathy Walls Reeves and husband, Tim of Langhorne, PA. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins and Mike family, niece, Darlene, and nephews Rene, and Ron Centanni and many cousins. The family thanks Dr. Scott Barron and his staff, all the nurses and staff on the 5th floor Telemetry of St. Francis Hospital, the nurses and staff of the 7th floor specialty hospital and her care givers, Mrs Onice Williams, Sharon, Stephanie, Deborah Kay, and especially Ms Evest Daniels. The family is most grateful to Dr. Tejal Jetha for her excellent care and boundless understanding and compassion. As Hazel will join her husband in the mausoleum at Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request any memorials to Shriners Hospitals for Children, any animal welfare group or your favorite charity.
