we just loved hazel and carey kirkland. both were stalwarts and strong christian examples at fbc in west monroe. mr carey and i were friends from kiwanis where he served his community so admirably. most of my contact with mrs. hazel was through church... i doubt they ever missed a service. she was also such a wonderful supporter and sponsor for my daughter, courtney, when she would be in talent shows or pageants. but what we probably all remember most about mrs hazel was 'the look!' she was always (as my mom would say) put together well... with perfection. she always looked like she just stepped out of a chic women's fashion magazine. i doubt she was vain, but we all knew she wanted to look her best... all the time. i would dare say she and mrs. tennison were the two "best dressed" ladies at fbc... but dont tell anyone i said that or i will get in trouble with those left off the list. her warm and caring spirit was always present. i know she and mr. carey are enjoying heaven... and both are looking their very best. may god give the family his measure of peace, comfort and strength. always cherish the many wonderful memories. love, david and jackie

Mrs. Kirkland was my fifth grade teacher. I still remember her reading “My Side of the Mountain” with the fans buzzing and the windows open in our smoldering classroom. Somehow, we transported to that mountain and forgot the heat. We would beg for more each day. Highland Elementary 1972-73

Hazel and Carey were lifelong friends of my parents, Mildred and "Swede" Dawson. Hazel and Carey introduced my parents. The two couples spent many happy times together throughout the years. Carol Ann, Wilson and John were all a part of my growing up years. Aunt Hazel was a wonderful hostess. She was always a part of the major events in my life. Our older daughter has memories of going to the Piccadilly to eat on Friday nights with my parents and Aunt Hazel and Uncle Carey. I am so glad they were treasured friends of my parents.

Ms. Hazel was a very special and classy lady. I was blessed to be inspired by her and grateful to have met her and spent some fun times with her and her daughter Carol. She will be missed but treasured in my heart.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Mrs Kirkland was my 3rd grade teacher, at Highland Elementary, in West Monroe, LA, in 1978. She was the most important teacher in my life, other than my mother. She taught me more than any other teacher, ever has. I learned so much in the 3rd grade. She was an important part of my education. I wish I had told her. So Thank you, Mrs Kirkland for all u did for me. Priceless.
