Thomas Harry McGehee, 82, of Monroe, died the morning of April 14, 2016. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 19 at twelve o'clock noon in the nave of St. Alban Episcopal Church, 2816 Deborah Drive. Visitation will be followed by the memorial service at two oclock in the afternoon, officiated by The Reverend T. Whitfield Stodghill III, Rector of St. Alban Episcopal Church, assisted by The Reverend Edward M. Head, Jr., former Rector of the parish, Archdeacon Bette Jo Kauffman, and The Reverend Polly Anderson, Deacon. Memorial services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes Monroe.Born at his grandparent home in The Plains, Louisiana, to Edward Lionel McGehee and Margaret Mills McGehee, Mr. McGehee was a devoted member of the Mills and McKowen families of north East Baton Rouge parish and the Feliciana parishes. A graduate of Zachary High School and Northeast Louisiana State College, School of Pharmacy, class of 1962, Mr. McGehee was employed in hospitals and pharmacies in north Louisiana and Baton Rouge during his career, and was recognized in 2012 for fifty years of dedicated work as a Registered Pharmacist. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Mr. McGehee served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Military Police.Mr. McGehee was married to Lynda Jane Eby of Monroe on November 10, 1962 at Grace Episcopal Church. He was a former member of The Plains Presbyterian Church in The Plains and a member of St. Alban Episcopal Church, active in the choirs of both, and was a soloist at many weddings and family occasions through the years. Mr. McGehee spent happy years on the Golson place near Cadeville in west Ouachita Parish, and with his wife, reared their children there and enjoyed the pleasures of country life. Since 1998, Mr. and Mrs. McGehee lived life along the levee of the Ouachita River at their home in Monroe, most notably with Heidi, his ever loyal Schnauzer companion.Mr. McGehee was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lionel McGehee and Margaret Mills McGehee, beloved grandparents, Dr. Thomas Lilley Mills and Mary Virginia McKowen Mills, and siblings, Margaret Ann McGehee Samuel and Wilmer Mills McGehee, and father-in-law, John Christian Eby, Sr.Surviving are his wife of fifty-three years, Lynda Eby McGehee; his four children, The Reverend Lionel Eby Smith-McGehee and partner The Reverend Thomas Smith-McGehee of Maitland, Florida, Elizabeth Mills McGehee and husband Donald Straka of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Amy McGehee FitzGerald and husband The Reverend Todd FitzGerald of Austin, Texas, and June Crosley McGehee of Monroe; his five granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth Coyne, Napa Valley, California, Hannah Rose Coyne, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Kate Crosley Smith-McGehee of Maitland, Florida, Stella Eby FitzGerald and Florine Kendrick FitzGerald of Austin, Texas.Mr. McGehee is also survived by his siblings, Edward Lionel McGehee and wife Ann, Baton Rouge, Mary Elizabeth McGehee and Mabel McGehee Lilley, Jackson, John Stark McGehee and wife Lisa of Zachary; his mother-in-law, June Golson Eby; and Lynda's siblings, John Christian Eby, Jr., Leah Eby Stewart and husband Glenn, all of Monroe; Jane Golson Cutler of Delhi, and by dear and cherished members of the McGehee, Mills, McKowen, Eby and Cutler families.Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Golson Cutler, Janet Durden, John Christian Eby III, Wesley Eby Johnson, Judy Hilton, Pat Regan, Garland Thomas Shipp, Grover Webb Stewart, Sarah Stevens and Clyde Morgan Webb.The family is particularly indebted to the excellent attention and care of Mr. McGehee from the nurses, aides and staff of the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe.The family kindly requests memorials be made to St. Alban Episcopal Church, Monroe, Louisiana.
