Officiating the service will be Bro. Johnie Adkins and Bro. Jason Cole. Interment will follow at St. Rest Cemetery on Highway 146, Dubach, Louisiana under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana.Mr. Canterbury was born August 29, 1920, and passed away February 10, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents: Harris and Jessie Canterbury of Simsboro, Louisiana; four brothers: Lloyd Tuck Canterbury, Reginald Canterbury, Jack Canterbury, and Claude Earl CanterburyHe is survived by his wife of 67 years Helen Lettie Canterbury, of Simsboro, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law: Tommy and Carol Canterbury of Bossier City, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law: Susan and John Corley of Simsboro, Louisiana; two grandsons: Chad Canterbury and wife Heather of Frisco, Texas; Jason Corley and wife Katherine of Allen, Texas; four great-granddaughters: Peyton and Campbell Canterbury of Frisco, Texas; Kaleigh and Kamryn Corley of Allen, Texas; one sister: Marjorie Harvey of Hodge, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was owner of Canterbury Grocery and Texaco Station in Simsboro, Louisiana. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the 9th Armored Division and fought in The Battle of the Bulge. He also served on the Lincoln Parish Policy Jury for nine years, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Simsboro for 71 years where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer.Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Kilpatrick‚ Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
