A Celebration of Life for Glen Grayson Grigsby, 85, of Ruston, LA will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 (2 PM), at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. Dr. Reggie Bridges and Rev. Dale Oden will officiate the service. A private family committal will be held under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston. Visitation will be Friday, June 29, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church. Glen passed at his residence Wednesday, June 27, 2018.A life-long resident of Lincoln Parish, Glen was born September 6, 1932 in a home near Simsboro, Louisiana to Chester Poole Grigsby, Sr. and Vera Aura Lamkin Grigsby. He married Janice Grigsby, also of Ruston, on March 3, 1990 and they were happily married for 28 years. Glen was a graduate of Simsboro High School and Louisiana Polytechnic Institute later named Louisiana Tech University, where he earned an accounting degree.Immediately after graduation, on March 3, 1956, he was drafted by the U.S. Navy and served on the USS San Joaquin County LST 1122. While in the Pacific stops were made in Hawaii, Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan, Okinawa, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Korea. He arrived home after discharge from the Navy on a Wednesday and found a job with Arkansas Louisiana Gas (ArkLa) starting work the next Monday. He later went to work for Southwest Natural Gas and eventually was offered a job by William A. Marbury at the Employer Group which later became Commercial Union where he worked for 30 years. Starting as an underwriting trainee, he attended CU workers compensation school, marine training, and general liability schools in New York and Boston. Glen later served as CU marine department head and was the commercial lines manager for the Ruston office, at the time the largest of the CU regional offices and the only one in a small town. After his retirement from Commercial Union he was enticed by Tim Dietrich to help develop a workers compensation self-insured fund. This eventually evolved into Stone Trust Commercial Insurance Company writing workers compensation insurance in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and East Texas. During his tenure in insurance, Glen earned the designation of certified property and casualty underwriter (CPCU) and was past president of the Monroe CPCU chapter. He also served on the Louisiana Rating and Classification Committee of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI).Over time Glen served as treasurer of the board of directors of Lincoln General Hospital, now Northern Louisiana Regional Medical Center, was a member of the Lincoln Parish School Board Bi-Racial Committee, the Ruston Lincoln Industrial Development Board of Directors, the Ruston Kiwanis, and a member of Temple Baptist Church.Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Poole Sr. and Vera Aura Lampkin Grigsby; brothers, Earnest Grigsby, Eugene Grigsby, and Chester Grigsby, Jr.; sisters Elaine Pesnell, Yvonne Goss, Ellon Nelson, and Geraldine Veatch.He is survived by his wife Janice Ferguson Grigsby; son Jeff Grigsby (Nancy) of Midland, Texas; daughters Kara Grigsby of Choudrant, LA, Lee Evelyn Tannehill of Ruston, LA, and Charlotte Tannehill Boone of Greensboro, North Carolina; grandchildren Austin (Jamie) Grigsby of Houston, Texas; Kirby Grigsby of Houston, Texas; David Cade (Molly) Grigsby of Denver, Colorado; Bradley Kosh of San Diego, California; Sara Kosh of Choudrant, LA; Hollis Grigsby of Midland, Texas; William Boone of Greensboro, North Carolina; great grandchildren Ryley and Ruth Rials of Choudrant, LA; and Emery Kate Grigsby of Houston, Texas; sister, Sue Horton (Paul) of Shreveport; the Risinger family of Spearsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.Honorary Pallbearers will be Harry Fristoe, Don Hogan, Steve Matlock, Steve Pierce, Jim Shrell, Fred Sutton, Leon Taylor, Curtis Tubbs, John Shealy, Dave Myers, and Ronnie Rodriguez.The family would like to express special thanks to Willie Mae Standifer, and the wonderful staff of Heart of Hospice.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilots For Patients, 3127 Mercedes Drive, Monroe, LA 71201.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
