George Pipes of Ruston passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 21, 2013 at Douglas United Methodist Church in Douglas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jeremy Jones and Rev. Rolly Walker. Interment will follow at Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mr. Pipes was born in Dubberly, LA on November 3, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Alvin and Helen Burton Pipes of Dubberly; his brother: Travis Pipes of Minden; his father and mother-in-law: Lee and Maude Smart of Ruston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 ½ years: Jane Smart Pipes; sons: James Pipes Monica of Ruston, and Jeff Pipes Ann of Dubach; daughter: Janis Smith Adam of Arlington, TX; and the joy of his life his six grandchildren: Shawn and Amanda Pipes, Taylor and Katelyn Pipes, Emma and Jake Smith; sisters: Barbara Mansell of Shreveport and Joyce Prestridge of Sarepta; also nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. Mr. Pipes was a member of the Douglas United Methodist Church. He was self- employed for over 40 years. He worked as a reserve Deputy for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff Dept. for many years. His hobbies were hunting and fishing and grilling cowboy ribs for family and friends. Pallbearers will be Bob Crocker, Ben Byrd, Jerry Crawford, Jody Adams, John Putnam and Mark Price, Jesse Spence and Tony Cash. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tom Morris, Tommy Adkins, William Putnam, Dr. Larry Neal, Jerald Bartlett, Terry Cupid and Scott Easley, Tommy Doss, Jim Stephens, Keith Huffman, Dr. Jim Finley, Mike Craft, Kenny Moore. Memorials may be made to Douglas United Methodist Church or St. Jude's Children Hospital. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
