A celebration of Gayla Walker Griggs’ life will be held on Friday, May 2 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Dubach, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly cherished woman.

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gayla Walker Griggs, who left this world at the age of 67. Gayla was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose unwavering love and infectious sense of humor touched everyone who knew her.

Gayla was a woman of deep faith who lived her life with strength, grace, and compassion. She drew strength from her relationship with God. Her ability to make others laugh brought lightness to even the toughest moments. Known for her generous heart, Gayla would give the shirt off her back to someone in need. After retiring from her career as a bank teller, she became a caregiver, dedicating herself to helping others with the same selflessness she always showed to her loved ones.

A lover of animals, Gayla found peace and joy in nature. She would often sit outside and talk to the birds, enjoying their presence and taking time to appreciate the beauty around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Walker and Martha Jean Smalling; sister, Kim Howard; aunts, Annette Frantom, Jeanette Ford, and Sarah Dugdale; cousin, Stephanie Payne; and Stephanie’s daughter, Savannah Payne. Each of these losses deeply impacted Gayla, but she carried their memory with her and honored their lives through the way she lived—with strength, love, and grace.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Thurmon (Corey Dupuis); her brother, Buddy Walker (Lori); and her sister, Karan Kirkham (Ricky), along with their children and grandchildren. Gayla’s love, humor, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all her family and friends.
