Gavin was born on November 12, 2001 in Monroe, LA and passed away on August 13, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA. Gavin’s life may have been cut short, but he touched the hearts of many while he was with us with his goofy personality and kind heart.
Gavin attended Neville High School where he enjoyed playing baseball with his Tiger teammates. He was an active member of the Christian ministry Young Life Ouachita Parish, where he ran for Mr. Christmas Tree 2016. He continued his education at Louisiana State University and was majoring in Business. Gavin was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and loved spending time with his SAE brothers. To know Gavin was to love him and memories of him will be cherished forever.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Charlene McCallum and cousin, Wendy Chesney.
Gavin is survived by his mother, Jennifer Shamblin and husband, John Shamblin; father, Chris Simmons; grandparents, Art and Sharlet McCallum, Patricia Morris, Glen Simmons, and John W. and Sara Shamblin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Cagle, Shawn Sharma, Johann Peters, Lake Needleman, Copeland Gothard, Sam Hannah, Larry Johnson, and Adam Eley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Neville High School Class of 2020 and the brothers of the LSU Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Memorials may be made in memory of Gavin to Pilots for Patients or the charity of your choice.

One of my fondest memories of Gavin was when Chris, Gavin, and I had our first camp out together! We were camped on a mud flat on the Ouachita river fishing for catfish! We were all sitting around talking about girls and telling Gavin stories when Gavin's pole almost went in the water! It was pure chaos! Gavin was screaming asking what to do and Chris and I were yelling cheering him on and hoping he landed the fish without his line breaking. He landed the fish and that monster weighed 20lbs! It was his first monster blue cat and I'll never forget the smile on all of our faces! Gavin was a light to everyone around him! He just had a way of making you smile! He made my life better and his memory will continue to do so throughout eternity! I love you Gavin!
