Funeral services for Dr. Gary Gene Ferguson, PhD, will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, LA., with Pastor Sig Kunz officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the church under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.Gary was born in East St. Louis Illinois on January 2, 1940 and passed away in Monroe, LA on September 15, 2017 after a brief illness. A retired Pharmacology professor at ULM, Gary received his Bachelor degree from the University of Houston, his Master degree from Baylor Medical School and his PhD from the University of Colorado. In 1977, Gary was awarded the Teacher of the Year from NLU, (now University of Louisiana, Monroe). He loved playing his guitar and often performed for social events, either solo or with his group The Discrepancies. Gary also enjoyed reading, going to the theater, and teaching.Gary is survived by his wife, Lois Ferguson; his daughters, Laurie Ferguson and Katie Ferguson Gray; grandchildren, Eva Gray and Lawrence Gray; nephew, Eric Ferguson (Susanne); nieces, Kris Smith (Harman) and Lynn Lewis (Jeff); great-nieces and nephews, Evan and Julieanne Ferguson, Katherine and Emily Harrington, and Joshua, Olivia and Dominic Lewis, all of California; and his beloved pets, Sweet Pea and Oscar.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
