Eugene Alexander, Jr., 75, passed away on August 9, 2024, following a brief illness. Eugene was born on July 15, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, to Eugene Alexander, Sr. and Hattie Mae Wilson.
Eugene grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended J. S. Clark Junior-Senior High School. He was affectionately known as “Baby Gene,” he gained the nickname from a charming picture sitting with his brother Jimmy Ray, which was used on handheld fans to advertise the Shreveport Mutual Funeral Home owned by his grandfather “Pappa” Dea. Pink Wilson, Sr. Baby Gene joined the Zion Baptist Church of Shreveport at an early age under the leadership of Pastor G. C. Wilson.
Gene’s workforce career allowed him to serve people with a smile. His first job was with the family business, where he worked alongside his grandfather at Shreveport Mutual Funeral Home. Eugene also worked for many years for the City of Shreveport in the Department of Sanitation and used his humor and warm smile in the entertainment world as a disk jockey known as “Mr. Mean.”
In his golden years, Eugene moved to Monroe and remained there until his earthly journey ended. With an incredible knowledge around sports, he called the game play by play and remained #1Fan of the New England Patriots. Eugene was a passionate movie viewer with an extensive Blockbuster home collection. With an inherited instinct of an entrepreneurial, the skills Baby Gene learned at Shreveport Mutual Funeral Home, he used them to redefine the Uber concept in his community, providing curbside and delivery transport services for family and friends with a smile. Eugene was active in every election, encouraging everyone to register and vote. He loved Monroe, his extended family, and the residents of the Ouachita Grand Plaza Housing. We were blessed to have Eugene as a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His intentional and impactful legacy of touching lives and encouraging others will live on forever.
