Funeral services for Ethaleen Hurst, age 101, of Ruston, LA will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, June 29, 2020 at Rock Corner Baptist Church.  Officiating the service will be Rev. Doug White assisted by Rev. Greg Tipton.  Interment will follow in Mineral Springs Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.

Ethaleen was born in Ruston on March 9, 1919 and died on June 26, 2020 in Ruston.  She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.  Ethaleen was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh Slack, Tommy Foster, Lamar Hurst; daughter, Peggy Sue Perdue; two sisters; and five brothers.

She is survived by her sons; Robert Slack and wife Patsy of Dubach, LA and Billy Slack and wife Barbara of Okmulgee, OK; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Monty Britt, Greg Franklin, Kip Franklin, Todd Franklin, Scott Martin, Donnie Kimbell, and Randy Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

She was my Pop’s sister and they loved each other as only a brother and a sister can. She was blessed to have had sisters, but what we had in common was “brothers”. She grew up in the shadow of 5 brothers; I have 3. She always said to me, “If I can survive with five, you can survive three!” “Aunt Munchie”, as we call her, has been adored by our family for 5, perhaps 6 generations. She was probably the first person I knew who, as the saying goes, “did not have a filter.” She said it just how she wanted to say it and did things just how she wanted to do things, but beneath that grit and spunk was a tender heart that never stopped loving. I can only imagine what her Heavenly reunion was like…what I can’t imagine is life without her. Aunt Munchie, I love you; I’ll cherish the memories and I’ll see you soon.
