Funeral services for Errol J. Donovan will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St Francis Medical Center Chapel in Monroe. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park. Father Phillip Theempalangattu will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home 1200 Lamy Lane Monroe, LA.God puts people on earth to do specific jobs. Errol's was to serve the public. He used his many skills serving, from fighting high water, to fixing caved in storm drains, cleaning up after ice storms, to putting out city dump fires, just to name a few. Errol talent was landscaping, he was very proud of the work he did at the Monroe city complex and Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. And although those projects fell by the wayside, he still had a sense of accomplishment in his life. He loved his adopted city and saw great improvements in many areas during his years with the City. It was there that he met and worked alongside men who knew how to do their jobs, making friends wherever he went.After his time with the City of Monroe he carried his knowledge to ULM, again working with the physical Plant and wonderful employees who again, knew their jobs. His service to St. Fredericks High School spanned 16 years.Errol retirement gave him precious time, his grandchildren gave him joy. The long walks along the Red Rock River in Montana with Joseph and Molly were like gifts from God. Watching the elk and looking for Mama Moose's babies were a must when visiting that wonderful place; teaching the grandchildren the true values in life, guarding and protecting them as he did his two daughters. As the sun set over the mountains, you would find him out with his fly rod testing his skill against the trout. The Lions Club work brought him joy as did trips to have iced tea with like minded friends.Errol was born in Natchez, MS., and was reared in Pointe Coupee Parish. He attending St. Joseph's Academy, graduated from USL, and went to Auburn University to study horticulture, which prepared him for his work in Monroe. During his career with the city he worked under three mayors. He entered private business and met success.He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Donovan and Lula Robinson Donovan; brothers, Donald Donovan, William Thomas Donovan, II, Patrick Donovan, and his brother Mike who died just hours before he did, in New Roads, Louisiana.He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Donovan; daughter, Angela DeeAnn Donovan Sager and the best son-in-law in the world, Bernard Sager; daughter, April Dionysia Donovan; grandchildren, Malcolm Joseph Sager and Molly DeeAnn Sager; sisters, Shirley Donovan Doucet and Constance Donovan Smith; brothers, Duane Donovan (Dale) and John Donovan (Sandra); and beloved sister-in-law, Judith Ann McKee (Otis). He had so many nieces and nephews that meant the world to him; most were his Godchildren.Pallbearers will be: Bernard Sager, Joseph Sager, Mark McKee, Tom McKee, Jason McKee, Corey Donovan, and Jerome Doucet.Honorary pallbearers will be: the Chapel Buddies at St. Francis Medical Center; Sister Mary Ann, Theresa and Roland Cotton, Vicky and Russ Day, the employees of the Grounds Department at ULM, and The Downtown Monroe Lions.His favorite pal, Whizz Donovan, stayed close to him during his short battle with a brain tumor.
