Elra Young JR.Kilpatrick Funeral HomeRuston, LAFuneral Services for Elra (Buddy) Young, Jr will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 2, 2015 at Temple Baptist Church Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the services will be Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will follow at Mineral Springs Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Elra Audris Young Jr. left this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He was known to friends and family as Buddy Young. He was born Jan 10, 1928 close to Mt. Lebanon near Gibsland, LA. He graduated from Arcadia High School where he was an All-State football fullback in 1945 and 1946. After graduation he went on to play football at Centenary College in 1947 then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and in 1949 played football for the Camp Pendleton Marine team. They went undefeated during this season. He played in the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA with the Camp Pendleton Marine Corp. where they defeated a Navy team from San Diego, CA on Navy Day 1949. He also played in Memorial Stadium in Los Angeles, CA for the championship All Navy game but lost the game 14-13. From there he went to Korea in the Incheon Invasion. He was there for one year and returned to the states and discharged in South Carolina. Following his return he began working for the Southern Bell Telephone Company which is now Bell South/AT&T. He retired in 1985 with 33 years of service. He moved from Shreveport, LA to Ruston, LA in 1961 and has made that his permanent home. He leaves behind his wife, Ernestine Johnson Young, 2 sons, Michael Young of Battle Mountain, NV, Phillip Young of Simsboro, LA and 1 daughter, Marilyn Williams of West Monroe, LA, 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He loved to travel with his family, hunt, fish and work in his garden specializing in watermelons. He rarely missed any of his grandchildren sports events and was so proud of all of them. He was a kind generous man that is loved dearly by his whole family and will be greatly missed.Buddy was preceded in death by his father Elra A Young, SR., mother Leola Crowell Young, sisters Evelyn Rogers of Shreveport, Pauline Crawford of Shreveport, Mary Lee Collins of Cotton Valley, Brother Ray Young of Shreveport and son Audris Rene Bo Young of Hollywood, FL. He is survived by a sister Ruth Harrell of Shreveport and brother Gene Young of Shreveport.Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
