A graveside memorial service for Virginia (Ginny) Brister Hoover will be held at Longstraw Cemetery located at the junction of LA 145 and Parish Road 404 in Choudrant, Louisiana, on Wednesday, May 7 at 4 PM under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston, LA, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.

The family will host a gathering for fellowship and refreshments at the nearby Emory House located at 2410 US-80 in Choudrant

She was born to parents Yancie Virginia Holley and John Homer Brister on November 1, 1937, in Sikes, Louisiana. Virginia peacefully passed away December 25, 2024, in Huntington Beach, California.

Virginia cherished time spent in Louisiana with her siblings and is survived by her younger sister, Audra Pesnell. Her predeceased siblings are James Brister, Stanley Brister, Homer Dean Brister, Louis Brister, Vetoile Gates, Bobby Brister, Arshal Brister, and Pete Brister.

After relocating to California, she met and married her loving husband Robert Hoover (pre-deceased). Together they enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome, square dancing, bowling, and playing cards and board games with their friends and family. Her legacy includes joyfully, patiently teaching each generation of children how to play Rummikub and Hand and Foot Canasta the right way.

Virginia had 3 children: Lisa Shore, Sonja Nowell, and John Anthony “Tony” Savage (predeceased).

She was blessed with 9 wonderful grandchildren: Brandon Lamar, Nolan Lamar, Whitney Carrillo, Marissa Schneider, Natalie Shore, Victoria Miller, Anthony Nowell, Jansen Nowell, and Lauren Nowell. She was further blessed with 15 adorable great-grandchildren.
