Funeral services for Edna L. Pouncey, 91, of Downsville are 3:00PM, Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Auld's Chapel Church with Rev. Michael Reynolds officiating. Interment follows at Aulds Chapel Church Cemetery in Downsville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Mrs. Pouncey Mama was born April 22, 1921 in Downsville, LA to the union of Cotman and Della Jordan. She passed away peacefully May 24, 2012 at her home in Downsville. She married James Edward Pouncey in Nov. 1940 and shared more than 63 years of marriage until his death in 2004. During her lifetime she was a sweet, gentle, God-loving woman who was called by many different names. To her siblings she was known as “Lucy.” She helped raise some of them and loved and cherished them to her last days. To her nine children she was “Mama” the most precious woman we knew. To her 27 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren she was Mamaw Pouncey and Grandmother Pouncey, the Matriarch of the family who collected their pictures on her mantel and lifted their names in prayer daily. To her church family she was known as Ms. Edna, who, when she was able, was in her pew by her sister-in-law, Gertrude Jordan, who was just like a sister to her. Mama was an uncomplaining, hard worker her whole life. When not busy with the never-ending chores of raising nine kids, she was working in her flower gardens and making beautiful quilts. Mom was predeceased by her parents; husband; son, James Ronnie Pouncey; grandson, Joey Spillers; son-in-law, Jerry Lewis, Jr.; brothers C. L., J. W., and Stanley Jordan; and her sister, Vera Jordan. She is survived by one son, Terry Pouncey; seven daughters, Betty Dickerson Stuart, Patricia Beebe Louie, Glenda Hunt Allen, Mamie Lewis, Karen Thomas Ricky, Deloris Spillers Joe, and Threasa Thomas; daughter-in-law, Barbara Pouncey; and their 82 children and grandchildren; brothers Arthur and Ira Lee Jordan; sisters, Dorothy Howard, Sylvia Myers, Brenda Wheat, and Audrey Payton. Pallbearers are grandsons, Shane Beebe, Chris Thomas, Jerry Lewis, III, Jason Thomas, Dr. Lukas Beebe and John Thomas. Visitation is Saturday, May 26, from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. “She called to JESUS like no one I've heard.
