Edmond ‘Nick’ Poland, 88, of West Monroe departed this life on January 14th, 2023, surrounded with the love of his family.
Nick was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Clara; by his parents Leon and Essie Poland of Bienville, and by numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his children Sharon Duncan and husband Bennie of Monroe, Connie Sue Boles and husband David of Monroe, Tim Poland and wife Kathy of Granbury TX; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother Jerry Poland of Bienville, LA, sisters Sue Billingsley of Bastrop, TX and Donna Pyron of Odessa, TX; sister-in-law Eva Ford of Ashdown AR; his much loved nieces, nephews and cousins, and especially nephew Mike Jones and wife Linda of Farmerville, LA, for the time and attention they gave.
Nick was a life-long builder and carpenter, an artist with wood and in 1958 began E.N. Poland Construction. In 1979 he joined Mid-South Construction of Dallas, spending many years working in multiple states. After returning to Louisiana, he worked for and retired as a Superintendent from Lincoln Builders, Inc. and then from Vista Construction Group, fully retiring at the age of 83 but still building and supervising to the end.
A member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Simsboro, LA, a former member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and a founding member and co-builder of the former lodge for the Loyal Order of Moose in West Monroe, Dad was a people person who would give anyone a helping hand. Together with Mom he loved to travel, spend time with their large families, enjoyed music, dancing, occasional trips to ‘the boat’, fishing and teaching his children and grandchildren how to build what their imaginations could create.
The family extends our deepest appreciation to Elara Caring of Monroe, its staff and Nurses, in particular Dana, Taylor and Melissa, for the excellent care and attention our Dad received.
A memorial gathering will be held February 4, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
