Sis. Callens I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I remember attending those sobering and admittedly scary lectures he used to give about the then Soviet threat to our country. I always had great respect for him. I could always feel the Spirit when he spoke. He was a good man.

Gene and I were roommates our freshman year at Georgia Tech. My first knowledge of Barbara was from a photo Gene had on his desk in our small dorm room. He told me how much he loved her and planned to marry her. I soon got to meet Barbara and witnessed their great love once they were married and shared their excitement when Angela Kay came along. I enjoyed spending time with the “new baby” never expecting there would be so many more to come. I was very blessed to have had Gene and Barbara in my life during my college years. Gene accomplished many things during his life, but I know nothing meant more to him than being a great husband and father. I and Shirley have Barbara and all of the family in our prayers.

I have been privileged to have known Gene for approximately 46 years. Gene, more than anyone, enriched my life like none other. He was the most intelligent and kindest person I have ever known. I love him like a very dear and close brother. RIP 'joe'

I was saddened to learn of President Callens he will always be President Callens to me passing. As a teen I learned to love this man for his wisdom and genuine love. I communicated with him a couple of years ago and as always he offered his love and support. He remembered my family from all those years ago. You will all be in my prayers. This world's loss is heaven's gain!
