Earl Edwin Price, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 54 years, Aundria Bridges Price, on 28 September 2024, after years of fighting multiple medical issues.
He is preceded in death by his parents Earl Edwin Price, Sr., and Bonnie McKeithen Price and brother, Jerry Wayne Price. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Aundria Bridges Price; two sons, Douglas Price of Lytle, TX, and Scott Price and his wife Christine Price of Ft. Worth, TX; and one granddaughter, Reagan Price studying in Ecuador.
He was born in Hodge, Louisiana, on 16 May 1942, to parents Earl Edwin Price, Sr., a very respected mechanic, and Bonnie McKeithen Price, a homemaker. After graduating from Ouachita High School in 1960, he served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968 as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Repairman at Kadena Air Base, Japan, and Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. After his honorable service to his country, he completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Physics from Northeast Louisiana University in 1969.
In 1969, he got a job with Louisiana Power & Light (LP&L) as an instrumentation technician at the Sterlington power generating station. He insisted on having a job before he married the love in his life, Aundria Bridges Price on March 27, 1970. The two started their new life together in a small house at 3800 Lee Avenue in Monroe.
In 1972, his first son, Douglas, was born to happily married couple. In 1974, a second son, Scott, blessed the growing family. Sensing that their current house was a little too small for a family of four, he designed and built a larger family home in Sterlington, Louisiana, in 1978. Here he raised his family eventually seeing both of his sons graduate high school, attend universities, enter military service, and leave the nest to start their own families. Earl eventually “retired” from LP&L after 25 years of employment. He was now free to pursue his hobbies and improve his craftsmanship skills at his leisure.
Earl was a highly skilled craftsman, particularly in woodworking and cabinetry. He created many pieces of furniture including curio cabinets, bedroom suits, entertainment centers, china cabinets, and many smaller projects. He also enjoyed the outdoors through fishing, camping, and hunting. Using the knowledge he gained in his Air Force years, he also liked to tinker with electronics. Earl even built a television set from a kit that required him to assemble every component by hand.
He lived in Sterlington until 2008 when he and Aundria moved to rural Ouachita Parish at their current home near Cadeville, Louisiana. He designed and built a custom log home and workshop for himself and his bride to enjoy their twilight years out in the countryside. Watching wildlife from his back porch was a favorite pastime as was caring for the land and garden he invested much time into.
Earl was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Richard Pemberton, George Roberts, Steve Hatten, Steve Johnson, James Smith, and William Smith.
