Dr.Thompson was my very favorite Tech professor in the late 1950s, and I worked in his office as a student assistant for a whopping 50 cents an hour. He will be missed! My sympathy to the family.

Dr Thompson influenced my life in a very positive way over 40 years ago. He was the faculty member on the 3 week bus/class credit tour of Canada and Western US. He was a terrific teacher and related to the "younger generation" of the 60's culture like few if any other professors could do. I switched my major to History b/c of him and he liked me which made me study! I was thinking about him earlier this month and was sad to hear of his passing, but what a wonderful life he had. Best wishes to his family. Bob Lynn -Bethlehem, Ga & Jax Beach, Fla.

I hated history until I took History of the Old South with Dr. Thompson. The class was one he had devised on his own, a sort of cultural history of what was going on during the Antebeullum Period in Business, Religion and Society. I spent many lunches with him after class discussing his lecture and we usually wound up discussing music, theatre, or theology as well. He was a GREAT teacher, one of those who epitomized the R. Inman quote: "A great teacher never strives to explain his vision. He simply invites you to stand beside him and see for yourself." Obviously, he made a big impact on me--and all through that one class. He was a treasure!

We are so blessed to have known Mr. Thompson. Whether it was countless events at University Presbyterian Church, sitting on the porch having coffee and reading to my legally blind mother, teaching us to play tennis using and giving us wooden rackets, or my sister buying her first car from him with 8-track installed!... he made an impact on our family that will never be forgotten. God bless your family.

Beyond memories of being at your house during our high school years together, Sherard, I have absolutely wonderful memories of having your father as a professor and advisor at Tech. His teaching made me glad I had chosen to major in Social Studies. He will be missed by more folks than you can imagine.

A great teacher and example for all of us. He probably had a much greater influence on those of us he had in his classes than even he ever realized.
