Dr. Jared Reeves, affectionately known as “Doc” to his many friends and patients, passed from this life on January 24, 2023, following a short illness. Jared was born on March 26, 1951, in Tyler, TX. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, where he played trumpet in the marching band. He attended Tyler Junior College, playing trumpet in the Apache Band. After attending Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, Jared moved to Chicago to attend The Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating in 1977.
Upon graduation, Jared opened his podiatry practice in West Monroe, LA, where he practiced for 46 years. Devoted to his patients and his calling, “Doc” saw patients the morning of the day he collapsed and had to be taken to the hospital. He loved trading stories with his patients, in particular with those who served in the armed forces. In addition to his patients, Jared was a friend to many, including his podiatry classmates, colleagues, and fellow history enthusiasts. He will be missed.
Jared was passionately patriotic and although he loved Louisiana, he always considered himself a loyal son of Texas. He was a true southern gentleman, soft of speech and always kind. Jared was a devout Christian who valued his Jewish heritage. He could be heard praying for his patients whenever he felt led or asked to do so.
Jared was preceded in death by his parents, William S. Reeves, Sr. and Charlotte Lissner Reeves, his brother William S. Reeves, Jr., and brother-in-law Ed Cabell. He is survived by his devoted wife Pam Trisler Reeves, stepson John Emory III (Brittni) of Ruston, LA, sister Linda Reeves Cabell of Tyler, TX, nieces Diane Jeffries (Shawn) of Euless, TX, and Beth Holcomb (Sean) of Round Rock, TX, along with their families. Jared is survived by his Ruston family, sister-in-law Angie Trisler Henderson (Chris), nephew Wes Henderson (Mandy), niece Ashley Henderson, and aunt Hollie Holland. He is also survived by his “right hand man” and medical assistant Ashley Robert Sims (Obie), his friend and fellow history buff Lyndon Sims, and his first wife Donna Rawls Reeves, who remains a dear friend to Jared and Pam. Jared is survived by his devoted pup Abraham.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Ruston Regional Medical Center doctors, ICU nurses, and technicians who cared so well for Jared. Their excellence and compassion during this time was felt not only by Jared, but also by his family.
Honorary pallbearers include Quinton Deason, Percy Ford, Wes Henderson, Sean Holcomb, Shawn Jeffries, Jeff Lux, Lyndon Sims, Obie Sims, and Nick Wynn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter or a veterans organization of your choice.
