Dr. Russell Harris Bulloch was born on April 26, 1932 to Thomas Henry and Velma Jean Bulloch in Monticello, Arkansas. He attended Monticello High School and what is now the University of Arkansas at Monticello for college. During his early years, Russ was an accomplished athlete and lettered in 4 sports in high school and 3 in college. He was eventually honored with inclusion into the UAM athletic Hall of Fame for his contributions on the football team where his nickname was “Lightening in a bottle” at the running back position.
Russell graduated college with a degree in biology and attended medical school at the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Arkansas. After graduation, he completed an internship at the University of Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and a residency in Pediatrics at Tulane University in New Orleans.
In New Orleans, he met Gail Dugal from Lafayette who was working as a flight attendant for Eastern Air Lines. They married and afterward Dr. Bulloch joined the Army as a Captain. They were stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina for several years.
After military service, the Bulloch’s moved to Monroe, Louisiana, where he joined the practice of Dr. Lauren Mickey and Dr. Elaine Fichter with the eventual inclusion of Dr. Buddy Bodron. He practiced Pediatrics in Monroe for over 35 years before retiring in 1999. During his years of practice, he was President of the Ouachita Parish Medical Society and held leadership positions at St. Francis Medical Center.
Dr. Bulloch was an accomplished golfer and loved fishing and hunting. He was a member of South Point hunting Club and was a founding member of Mallard Farms where he spent thousands of hours in the duck and deer woods as well as, on his tractor.
Gail and Russ enjoyed their many friends in North Louisiana. They were also exceptional parents and extremely proud of their children and grandchildren.
Dr. Bulloch passed away at his home on June 8, 2024, at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Velma Bulloch; brother, Dr. Robert Bulloch and his wife Gail Bulloch.
He is survived by his children Dr. Brian Bulloch and his wife Stacy of Monroe, LA.; M’Lise Bulloch Webb and her husband Gordon Webb of Plano, Tx.; Four grandchildren, Dr. Blaine Bulloch and his wife Dr. Ashley Bulloch of Shreveport, Louisiana, Jackson Webb and Stephen Webb of Dallas, TX and Scott Bulloch of Monroe, Louisiana; and special companion, Carmen Adams of West Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Mike Bailey, Chris Rizzo, Dr. Wally Nawas, Dr. Mike Zambie, Dr. Jaime Slusher, Ben Soigner, Chris Soigner, Robert Kellogg Jr. and Dave Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 17, 2024, at Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in West Monroe. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial in Monroe, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. The family will receive guests from 12:30 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
