Dr. Mitchell Blair Young was born on February 14, 1946 in Kewanee, Illinois and passed away on January 23, 2025 in Monroe, Louisiana. Mitchell was a Vietnam Combat Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. He volunteered to go to Vietnam in 1966. Mitchell went to Purdue University where he earned his PhD and then began teaching graduate students in counseling from 1992 to 2011 at ULM. He went on to establish a clinic, which served veterans and others with addictive disorders and PTSD. Mitchell also excelled in competitive rifle shooting. He is preceded in death by his father, Dean Young.
Mitchell is survived by his wife Madeline Slaughter-Young; daughter, Ansley K. Young; grandchild, King Mitchell; mother, Kate Appenheimer Kerr; sister, Suzanne Young; many cousins; and other cherished family and friends.
Mitchell loved all of his family and he will be greatly missed.
