Jerry P Draayer left a message on September 24, 2021:
Jim Mackey was a kind and wonderful person. The world in which we live would be a very different place if a few more "Mr. Jims" were sprinkled amongst us. Jim, along with his life-long friend, partner, and wife - Ms. Mae - were an exemplar couple that one could only wish would bless any family. Our thoughts and prayers are with your daughter Joy, who you so appropriately named as she inherited the Jim and Mae loving spirit, bringing joy and good will to family and friends, which the "Draayer's" - as long- time neighbors and friends from Baton Rouge - learned to lean on, their having shown us - Yankees from the North - what "Southern Hospitality" is really all about! So, Mr. Jim and Ms. Mae, I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the "other side" of the eternity. The two of you were and will remain BFF (Best Friends Forever), to use the jargon of the younger set among us, to whom we ultimately leave behind challenges of today that seems like a real "mixed bag" of good and evil, that you should not have to endure any longer! Love you both, Jerry (for myself and other members of the Draayer Family that will not be able to gather in person to remiss of all the good things we used to share).

Jim Mackey was one of the most wonderful human beings ever to inhabit this earth. I am sure his Golden Voice is already being heard bringing glad tidings to all in the heavenly sphere. He always brought cheer and happiness to his family & friends. My wife & I were the recipients of numerous of his good deeds and services, My daughter Jennifer was a friend of Joy's and Jim treated her as it she were his own daughter. Jim & his wonderful wife Mae were our boon companions on many a quest for good food hidden away in little-known regions of the state. Jim Mackey's gentle, loving spirit was a blessing to all lucky enough to know him. Milton and Penny Hallman

Joy and Family, Your dad (and mom) were two of the best persons ever to grace this earth. They were full of kindness and wisdom and love for others, and - of course - you! Our hearts are with you as you now mourn the loss of your dad. We will be thinking of you with love and beautiful memories. Love, Daphne and Ashley Cowart
