Funeral services for Dr. James M. Henderson, 83 of West Monroe, LA are at 10 AM, Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Feazel Chapel of First Baptist Church of West Monroe with Rev. Mark Fenn and Rev. Woods Watson officiating. Interment follows at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Dr. Henderson was born February 25, 1928 in Durant, Mississippi and passed away October 17, 2011 in West Monroe. Dr. Henderson graduated from Drew High School in Drew, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After military service, he attended and graduated from Mississippi College, where he also played football. Later he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. Dr. Henderson was an avid gardener and duck hunter, and loved volleyball and West Monroe football. He was a member of Gideons International and was a deacon of First Baptist Church West Monroe. He volunteered at the greenhouse at the Senior Center and the Greenhouse at First Baptist Church West Monroe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years Carolyn Reed Henderson in July, 2008. Survivors include his wife, Peggy McGaugh Henderson; his daughter, Corinne Henderson Pace and husband Johnny; his sons, Dr. James M. Henderson, Jr. and wife, Sandy, and Dr. Al Henderson; granddaughters, Lyndsay Henderson Turner and husband Shelby, Bonnie Pace Patterson and husband, Chris, and Julie Anne Pace; grandson, Teddy Henderson; great-granddaughter, Summer Turner; great-grandson, Sam Turner; step-children; Diane McGaugh Snell and husband Donnie, Sam McGaugh Jr. and wife Kim, David McGaugh and wife Kathi, Linda McGaugh Hendricks and husband Wayne; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Teddy Henderson, Shelby Turner, Sam McGaugh, Jr., David McGaugh, Wayne Hendricks and Chris Patterson. Honorary pallbearers are his Sunday School Class Life Group. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
