Our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, grandmother, and friend, Dorothy Sims, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Known to many as “Lil Mamaw,” “purple Mamaw” “aunt bb” or just “Dot”. She filled our lives with color and unwavering love.
Born in 1935, Dorothy lived a full life and never stopped. She was the wife of Waymon Harold Sims, Sr. for 70 years. Any time spent with the two of them would include a heavy dose of playful banter. Together with their only son Perk, Waymon and Dorothy traveled making memories that would last a lifetime. Her family was her pride and joy—especially all of her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.
An artist at heart, Dorothy found beauty in the delicate strokes of her china painting. A craft she not only mastered but lovingly taught to others. Dorothy’s creativity bloomed in her garden and her hands were always busy nurturing her plants and flowers.
She was a lifelong bargain hunter, and never missed an opportunity to “run the roads” in search of a good deal or a new adventure especially with her friends. Dorothy’s love of shopping was matched only by her love of making chocolate pies-hers were legendary, and no family gathering was complete without one.
Dorothy served with dedication for years at Good Hope Baptist church shuffling the youth back and forth to make sure everyone attended RA’s and GA’s. She loved traveling with her family, especially to Soap Creek, Colorado, often scouting for flowers and plants along their route. Dorothy was rarely seen in anything but purple—her signature color which earned her the nickname: purple mamaw.
She was one of a kind, kept everyone on their toes, fiery and loving at the same time, hard working and took pride in everything she did. Dorothy will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated.
