Burial will be held at Conway Cemetery.On Friday, May 3, 2019, as daughters and granddaughters gathered round her bedside, Mrs. Dorothy Bell Shadic Tubbs lost her long, hard fought battle with illness and won her victory. She was 92 years old.Dorothy was born on January 31, 1927, in Linville, LA, the eighth child of John Henry and Mary Winifred Waxie Day Shadic. She learned hard work at an early age from picking cotton to learning to be one of the finest cooks in Union Parish.She attended Linville High School and married James Egbert Babe Kennedy. He was soon deployed to fight in WWII and was killed in action.Later she married Troy Lee Tubbs and they were married over 60 years until his death. As a young couple they settled in Conway, LA, and raised their four daughters. She received her GED the same year her third daughter graduated from high school.She was a member of Conway Baptist Church, where she taught the Women Sunday School Class for over 40 years. She was a strong Christian influence on her family and it was a rare revival that she didnt sign up to feed the preacher. She loved cooking and no one left her home hungry. She was the epitome of Southern hospitality. She was put on this Earth to love and be loved. Proof by her last months declarations of love everyday for her girls. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Babe Kennedy and Troy Lee Tubbs, oldest daughter, Charlotte Ann Tubbs Johnston; sister, baby girl Shadic; brothers, Lonnie, A.J., Carrie, Carl Shad, Woodie, Dalton Bird Shadic; grandson, Anthony Ryan Cole; great grandson, Cooper Wyatt Englerth; and grandson-in-laws, Wayne Bailey and Thomas Kaheiki.Left to cherish her memories are daughters, Judy Tubbs Cole and husband Dickey, Shirley Tubbs Rowell, Kathy Tubbs Simpson and husband Kenny all of Conway, LA; Grandchildren, Shannon Johnston Barkley and husband Kevin, John Johnston, Allison Johnston Isaac and husband Barry all of Downsville, LA; James Lee Jay Johnston of Bawcomville, Toni Cole Edwards and husband Matt of Hot Springs, AR; Kim Cole Englerth and husband Will, Brad Rowell and wife Junie, April Simpson Williams and husband Sean of Conway, LA; and Shawn Simpson and wife Vannette of Sterlington, LA; son-in-law, John Van Johnston, Sr. of Downsville, LA; with 21 great- grandchildren and 8 great- great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Shadic, special niece, Phyllis Tubbs Blaine and numerous other nieces and nephews; and special niece Phyllis Tubbs Blaine.
