Donna Sutton left a message on November 7, 2016:
Dr. Nelson was my undergraduate advisor at Tech, and he believed in my abilities when nobody else did. He encouraged me to earn my master’s degree and doctorate, and to attend Tech Rome when I had never been on a plane before. We remained friends after my graduation, and he took the time to attend my wedding. I would not be the person that I am today if it weren’t for Dr. Nelson.

I loved Don Nelson. I enjoyed many years teaching with him in the College of Education at Louisiana Tech University. He was always friendly and charming. I know he will be missed greatly by his family.
Dr. James T. McCollum left a message on October 30, 2016:
I have many fond memories of Don, particularly in our many discussions at the “Fossils” coffee klatches, in the mornings at SAU. He had a wry sense of humor and an enduring love of people, especially of his students and colleagues. His support of and assistance to one of his colleagues, in the time of the latter’s serious illness, was strong testimony of his loving concern for people. I and many of the many folks whose lives he touched will miss him greatly!
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Dr. Don Nelson got me through college. He was my first adviser at Louisiana Tech. I have had a wonderful career in education, and I owe much gratitude to him for all that he did to help me. He always made helping students his highest priority. My condolences to his family upon the loss of a great professor and a great person.
