Funeral services for Mr. Don Wayland Love, 81, of Ruston will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Cook Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Dr. Mike Holloway and Rev. Wayne Jenkins. Interment will follow in St. Rest Cemetery in Dubach, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be from 5:007:00 P.M. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Cook Baptist Church.Don Wayland Love of Ruston passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 11, 2015, at the age of 81. Love, a long time businessman in Ruston, was born on July 27, 1934, to James Furman Love and Lavara Garriss Love in Linville, LA. He graduated from Ruston High School and went to Louisiana Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1956.After working in southwest Colorado as part of a seismograph crew for Carter Oil Company, Love returned to Ruston to begin his career in residential construction and development. Over the next thirty-two years, he assisted people in achieving the dream of home ownership, building over 600 living units including custom homes, duplexes, and townhomes. He developed numerous subdivisions in the Ruston area including Foxwood, Greenbriar Estates, Barnette Springs Place, and Windsong Village. Love has been recognized twice by the Ruston Board of Realtors and the City of Ruston for his contributions to the growth and development of the community.Love was a longstanding member of the Ruston Rotary Club, serving a term as President of the local chapter. He achieved recognition on two occasions as a Paul Harris Fellow for his contributions and service to the local club and Rotary International. Mr. Love was an active member of Cook Baptist Church. Through the years he served as a Sunday School teacher, Disciple Training Director, deacon, and on a number of committees. He loved to sing and was part of the Sanctuary Choir for as long as he was physically able to get into the choir loft. Along with his wife, Alice, he started a ministry to international students. Many Sunday mornings it was common to find young adults of varied religious backgrounds from Asia, South America, and the Middle East studying the Bible together and learning the truth of God Word under his guidance. The Loves had the opportunity to travel extensively. While Alice took photos, he journaled their adventures through Israel, Switzerland, Australia, Soviet Union, and other countries. As the son of a farmer, Love had gardening in his blood. He always maintained a prolific garden plot and, after his retirement from construction, he spent much of his time pursuing this hobby.Mr. Love was married to Mary Alice Hood Love for 55 years. Alice preceded him in death in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, James and Lavara Love; three brothers, Victor Love, George Allen Love, and Olby Lee Love; and two sisters, Floyce Idelle Torrey and Annie Inez Love. He is survived by his children, Dennis W. Love of Mansfield, TX; Kaye Love Ambrose and husband Kenneth of Ruston; and Jerry D. Love and wife Jena of Pineville, LA; two sisters, Norma Jean Martin of Ruston, and Martha Nellwyn Smith of Castor, LA; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.Love grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
