Funeral services for Don Mathys of Monroe will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday April 2, 2014 at Northminster Church, 2701 Lamy Lane, Monroe, LA, with Dr. C. Weldon Gaddy officiating. Interment to follow at Liberty-Taylor Cemetery, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes.Don was born February 25, 1935 in Monroe, LA and passed away in his home on Monday March 31, 2014. Don was a native of Monroe, LA and a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School and Tulane University with a degree in architecture. Upon graduation he received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for Leadership, Service and Merit in 1958.He was active in the Louisiana Architects Association and was President in 1986. He was a member of the local Monroe chapter. He practiced architecture in various locations from 1958 to 1968. From 1968 to 1989 he operated his own architectural practice, taught and was Director of the School of Art and Architecture for a short period of time at Louisiana Tech University. From 1989 to 2002 he was Superintendent of Building Inspections for Escambia County, Pensacola, Florida.He was life -long member of Kiwanis International and active in the Council on Aging in Ruston. He also served as president of the Ruston Symphony Society. He earned the designation of Master Gardner.He is survived by his spouse, Phoebe Allen Mathys; two daughters, Donna Mathys Bancks and husband George; Rebecca Mathys Warner and husband Dane; four grandchildren, Jeremy Upton and wife Candice; Emily Mathewes Warner and husband William; Caroline Sarah Florsheim and Juley Quinn Warner.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northminster Church Monroe, LA.Visitation will be from 9:45 AM until service time.

Phoebe: I just now opened up Max's email to learn of Don's passing. I attempted to leave a message on 340-7944 but not sure you received it. All my condolences. Will keep trying to call you on 340-7944. Marc Rabun

I am so sorry for your loss. You are a strong person and your life will continue in a new way. One of the things that helped me was seeing other women who were walking the same road and how they had found a new normal in their life. You were married to a wonderful person and I enjoyed getting to know him. God knows your sorrow and He will get you through the coming days. You will be in my prayers. I wish I could be with you, but I will be in Texas at my sister-in-law's memorial service. Call on me for anything, even if it just for talk or to bring you something from the grocery store. I will help in anyway I can.

Our condolescences and prayers to you, Phoebe and Mathys families. Don designed my parents' home in 1972 and I often remember him as I enjoy living in it today. He was a fine man and will be fondly remembered. Love and prayers to you during your time of loss.
