Funeral Services for Delbert G. Wheeler, 77, of Spencer will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 18th at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe, Louisiana with Brother Don DeLukie officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Cook Family Cemetery in Spencer. Delbert was born in Mer Rouge, LA on March 14, 1936 and passed away Dec. 13th 2013. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Sterlington, LA and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Before medical retirement he was employed by United Gas Pipeline for 22 years. He attended Ouachita Parish High School and was a proud member of the football team. Delbert attended Northeast Louisiana University. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardner and loved bluegrass music. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents Percy J. Wheeler Sr. and Lorene Stuard Wheeler of Haile, Louisiana and his nephew Michael Wheeler of Shreveport. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Cook Wheeler of Spencer. Son, Andy Wheeler of Bakersfield California. Daughters and their husbands: Debra and John DeHart of Richmond Hill Georgia; Sonya and Paul George of Farmerville, Louisiana; Jennie and Chad Barfield of West Monroe Louisiana. Eight Grandchildren: Kayla DeHart and husband Jerome Lete of Quaregnon Belgium; Matt, Ben and Lydia George of Farmerville, Louisiana; Sydney, Nick and Morgan Wheeler of Bakersfield California; Rachel Barfield of West Monroe Louisiana. He is also survived by brothers and their wives: Percy and Shirley Wheeler of Shreveport Louisiana; Kenneth and Ella Faye Wheeler of Monroe; sister and husband Sue and Conrad Ludlow of Swartz Louisiana. Pallbearers will be: Buddy Hollis, Bobby Jenny, Lanny Parker, Doug Wheeler, Larry and Randy Ludlow. Special thanks to the staff of Arbor Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Farmerville, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday December 17 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe, Louisiana.
