Debbie was born on June 26, 1954, to the union of Ernest and Joyce Nolan. Debbie arrived on this earth unique and loved big. She lived life to the fullest despite some challenges that life brought her. She was a strong-willed and very loving person. She was a long-time participant of the ARCO organization. She loved attending the “Drawn Together” art classes as well as the community events and dances in this wonderful program.
Just like she entered this world, Debbie left it living life to the fullest until she closed her eyes one last time on April 24, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Debbie is preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Nolan and father, Ernest Nolan.
Debbie is survived by her devoted brother, Chip Nolan and wife, Pat; sister, Sharon Batton; stepmother, Bobbie Cole Nolan; nieces, Lesleigh Hopkins, Shari Milne and husband, John, Amanda Brown and husband, Dustin; great-nieces, Kyla and Sara Milne; great-nephews, Drew Milne and Duke Brown; along with extended family and friends.
Debbie joined the ARCO Supported Living Services in 1991 where she gained her independence as a young woman learning to navigate apartment life on her own. Though she never lost her strong attachment for her parents, she saw that she could become independent and live on her own. She grew in understanding of what it meant to be responsible for oneself, charting a life that included day-to-day household and personal responsibilities as well as neighborly friendships. Debbie reached a particularly high achievement when she worked at the Cinemark as a ticket-taker, a job that she enjoyed and that showed her and all around her the height of her abilities. She was a Saints fan, showing her love of the Saints Team by wearing her favorite sweat shirt. Debbie continued to determine her journey’s path when, seeing that she needed help to manage, she moved in with other women whose needs and strengths paralleled her own. She appreciated the supports she received, often laughing with her apartment-mates and engaging with staff in things that she enjoyed. Deborah’s life reflects achievements that can be reached with a bit of self-confidence and a lot of determination.
A multitude of gratitude is extended to her caregivers in the last months of Debbie’s life. Many thanks to the people of ARCO for their dedication and devotion to her well-being throughout the years. There are not enough words about how this organization and the friendships Debbie made that changed her life and made it for the better.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her friends she made at ARCO.
