Funeral services for Christopher Long will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church, West Monroe, Louisiana. Pastor Michael Wood will officiate with Matecki Nelson and Jay Caskey speaking on behalf of family and friends. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens in West Monroe, Louisiana, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 27, 2024, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, Louisiana.
Chris, known as “Topher” by his fellow firefighters, a dedicated 22 year veteran with the West Monroe Fire Department, passed away suddenly, September 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and camaraderie that will never be forgotten. For the past 15 years, Chris served as the president of West Monroe Firefighters Local 1385, where his leadership, commitment, and unwavering support for his fellow firefighters made a lasting impact on the community and the lives of those he served alongside. He was not just a chief; he was a brother, and friend to everyone at the department, embodying the spirit of unity and dedication that defines the team. “Topher was the heart of our department,” said Charlie Simmons, Fire Chief of the West Monroe Fire Department. “His passion for serving others and his commitment to our community were unparalleled. He can never be replaced, and we are grieving this tremendous time.” Chris’ contributions extended beyond his duties as a firefighter; he was a mentor, advocate, and a source of inspiration for many. His infectious spirit and genuine kindness touched the lives of countless individuals, making a lasting difference both with the department and the wider community.
Chris was a 2001 graduate of West Monroe High School. He then began his career with the West Monroe Fire Department working through the ranks of firefighter, driver and captain. Chris was also a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children. He was heavily involved in all the sports and activities with his 4 children, whether it was coaching them or cheering from the sidelines. Chris had recently starting playing golf again with the older boys and he loved spending time with them on the golf course. He was always extremely proud of his children’s accomplishments.
Chris is preceded in death by grandfather, Jerry E. Hobson; and grandparents, John A. Long and Marjorie “Big Mamaw” Long.
Chris is survived by his wife, Holland Long; children, Lexi Warner, Aidan Warner, Austin Parker and Asher Long; mother, Toni Rogers and husband Sean; father, Paul Long; father-in-law, Delfin Lovato; mother-in-law, Cathy Warner; brother, Brandon Rogers and wife Melanie; sister, Zoey Long; brother, Josh Long and wife Syndey; sister-in-law, Addie Lovato; grandparents, Patsy Hobson, Charlotte and Will Rogers, Mary Ann Day; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and fellow Firefighter “Brothers”.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Weaver, Jon Larry Averitt, Patrick Freeman, Jamie Hobson, Chad Burford, Wayne Taunton, Jay Caskey, and Nick Olson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the West Monroe Fire Department, Ouachita Parish Fire Department , Monroe Fire Department, and the Slidell Fire Department.
