Funeral services for Charles Herbert Major Kelley, 96 of Bernice, LA, will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bernice. Officiating the service will be Rev. Michael McIntosh, assisted by Rev. Charles Malone.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Bernice City Cemetery in Bernice, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville. Major was born on February 5, 1922 in Winnfield, LA and passed on April 22, 2018 in Farmerville, LA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernice. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Puddin McGee Kelley, grandson Charles H. Chip Kelley III, brothers, Bill, Howard, Burford, Bobby, and Robert and one sister Sissy. Major was an avid sports fan. He and Puddin loved the Lady Techsters Basketball. He loved fishing on Corney Creek and Lake Darbonne. Major enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1945, after serving for 22 years as a flight engineer reaching the rank of Major before retiring in 1964. After serving his country Major moved his family to Bernice, LA, where he became involved in the Community Action Association, Inc. in Farmerville becoming its director for over 40 years. He was also a Shriner, a Mason, and served on numerous boards of the community. But most of all he was a great father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Major will be greatly missed by his family and a great number of friends and acquaintances.Survivors are his son: Pete Kelley and wife Anne of Ruston, LA; daughter, Kathy Kelley Smith and husband B.W. of Gurdon, AR; son Kim Kelley of Bernice, LA; son, Kasey Kelley and wife Pam of Farmerville, LA; grandchildren, Sterling Grafton Jackson, Kelley Wayne Grafton, Kandi Kelley Collins and Klint Kelley, and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Thomas Marsh, Clint New, David Jackson, Minor Patton, Billy McIntosh, and Mike Kelley.Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Lee and Billy Ross OBannon.Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bernice, LA, the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer Association.The family would like to thank the great staff of Arbor Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Farmerville, LA.
