Funeral services for Mr. Charles Edward Ates, 82, of West Monroe, LA. will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday November 20, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home-West Monroe with Rev. John Dalilio officiating. Interment to follow in Monroe Memorial Park, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home-West Monroe. Mr. Ates was born May 20, 1924 in Arcadia, LA, and died November 18, 2006 in West Monroe. Mr. Ates was a retired logger and farmer. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his children, John Oliver Ates and Steve Randall Ates; parents, James Oliver and Nellie Taylor Ates; his brothers and a special sister. Survivors include wife, Fannie Mae Hutto Ates; fourteen children, Charles Ray Ates and wife Doris, Carolyn Ates, Dorothy Mercer and husband Tommy, James Ates and wife Alice, Betty Sue Primm and husband Robert, Edward "Bay" Ates and wife Ann, Edith Akin and husband Dennis, Roy Ates SR, Darlene Smith and husband Mike, Wayne Ates, Charlene Cummings and husband Tim, and Linda LeBaron and husband Dusty. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren; special nephew Floyd Johnson and special niece Lois Johnson Martin. In daddy's young years he loved to hunt, fish and work in his well kept gardens. He kept his kids busy with too much cotton pickin and pea pickin. Daddy loved a good laugh and had a sweet sense of humor that has been past on to each of his children. Rest easy daddy your work is done. Pallbearers will be Jamie "Fellar" Shirley, Allen Ates, Rusty Garner, Josh Smith, John Paul "Petie" Primm, Brandon Cummings and C.W. Ates.
