Charles E. MurrayFuneral services for Charles E. Murray are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, at the Temple Baptist Church Chapel, Ruston, LA with Pastor Dale Oden officiating. Burial will follow at the Pines Memorial Garden under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service starting at 9:30.Charles Murray, born August 12, 1928, and was the youngest son of the late Robert Clarence Murray and Mary Ann Ivins Murray. He graduated from Vivian High School and immediately went to work with Arkla Gas, which is now CenterPoint Energy. He was hired in an entry level position with the company in 1948 and after 37 years of service, retired in 1985 in the position of District Superintendant for Compressor Stations in Oklahoma. Charles loved and enjoyed life passionately. He was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed going to the games and cheering on his beloved Tigers with special friends. He was a wonderful musician and spent many weekends in his younger years playing and singing on the Louisiana Hayride. He received local recognition by having his own weekly radio show in Texarkana, where he played hit country tunes made famous by his favorite country stars, Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, and Marty Robbins. He also served many positions in his church and was well known, loved and respected as a Men‚ Bible Study teacher at Temple Baptist Church for 15 years. Because of the many life-long friendships that developed from this class, these men will serve as his pallbearers. He is survived by his wife, Ouida Murle Murray, his love and partner for sixty-four years, and his two children, Debra Murray Graves, husband, Mike, and Penny Murray Humphries; his grandchildren Jay Graves and wife Dana of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Laurie Graves of West Monroe, and Chase Graves of Malibu, California and eight great- grandchildren.The family wishes to thank Dr. Will Sanders, the nurses and staff at Alpine Guest Care, and a special thanks to Nurse Lamika Walker that made a difference in his care battling cancer for the past few months.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
