Cecil Mack Carpenter, 82, passed away on April 29, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 until the memorial begins. Cecil Mack Carpenter was a man that had a kind heart. He was a giving man in all things. There are many examples of times when Cecil would do things for others or give to others items of his he felt they wanted or needed. He was well loved and will be missed. He was born on February 26, 1935 in Millry, Alabama. There he grew up with his mom, dad, and 9 siblings. He had 3 brothers and 6 sisters. He loved fishing and hunting with his father and his brothers. They would call it Making Music. Cecil later found a way to make real music. Cecil is survived by 3 of his sisters: Vergie Walker, Harlean Natt, and Carol Atchison.Sometime after graduating from Washington County High School, Cecil took a job working for Thompson Drilling. This took him away from home. In 1958, Cecil was in the Army. Of his 2 year service, he spent over a year in Korea. For the next 4 years, he was in the Army Reserves.Cecil met the love of his life in Many, Louisiana at Maribelle Caf©. He married Dorothy Ann Dottie Carpenter on February 10, 1963. After a life together, exceeding 50 years, Dottie passed away on July 8, 2014. Cecil will be buried next to his loving wife. Though Dottie and Cecil did not have children of their own, they helped raise many of their nieces and nephews, treating them as if they were their own. After many years of working on offshore oil rigs, Cecil ended his career of working in the oil field by retiring from Texaco in 1994.He was a man of many skills. He had the ability to see someone do something and then soon be able to do it himself. He was truly a self-taught man. From construction, to auto mechanic, to welding, he was not afraid to try to do anything. He approached music the same way. Having never really learned to read music, he taught himself how to play many instrumentsguitar, banjo, mandolin, and steel guitar just to name a few. He will be Making Music in Heaven.Memorials may be made to: Cure Alzheimer Fund, 34 Washington Street, Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
