Funeral services for Cathern Brock-Walker, 92, will be held at 12:00 P.M., Friday, December 27, 2024 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Brother Jimmy Pelley and Minister Eddie Simmons will officiate. Interment will follow at Loch Arbor Cemetery in Swartz, Louisiana under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Cathern was born on November 2, 1932 in Rayville, Louisiana and passed away on December 22, 2024 in West Monroe. She was a devoted member of the Monroe Church of God and served there teaching Sunday School to both children and seniors. Cathern was a busy mother of seven who earned an elementary education degree at the age of 45. She went on to teach at several Christian schools, preferring third graders, and eventually retired from Claiborne Christian School. Cathern served the community for years as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and was always leading activities at both her church and school.
Cathern never stopped learning. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles of all kinds. For many years Cathern loved to crochet and made countless afghans for friends and family. More than anything though, she loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them. Cathern loved her family fiercely and with all she had. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Mack Brock; husband of 12 years, Robert Walker; son, James Brock; daughter, Donnie Lou Brock; father, Monroe Cater; mother, Gladys Farrar; and sister, Mary Dumas; brothers, Monroe Cater, Jr., Billy Farrar.
Cathern is survived by her son, Leslie Brock and wife LeJuene; daughters, Brenda Sherman, Bonnie Prescott and husband John, Gladys Eubanks, Lanette Knight and husband Paul; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Plattman, Patsy Self; brother, Randy Farrar; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Matt Brock, Chris Middlebrooks, Trey Garcia, Silas Knight, Bob Kirk and Larson Brock.
In the spirit of giving and serving, that was a huge part of Cathern’s life; the family has requested that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation in her name to one of her two favorite charities, The Gary Sinese Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
