Funeral services for Bobby E. Smith of Chatham will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Lee, Brother Wayne Morrow, and Dr. Wilton Wall. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Bobby was born November 8, 1942 in Warren, Arkansas, and went to be with his Lord and Savior August 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.J. and Pauline Smith; and brother, James Marshal Smith. He is survived by his wife, Martha Bailey Smith; daughter, Gail Smith VanDenLangenberg and son-in-law, Gene; daughter, Kristi Smith Tollett and son-in-law, Roland; grandsons: Adam VanDenLangenberg, Mark VanDenLangenberg, and Jon Robert Tollett; granddaughter, Anna Katherine Tollett; sister, Katherine Kervin and brother-in-law, Tom; brother, Paul Smith and sister-in-law, Glenda; sister-in-law, Trena Smith; and several nephews and a niece.Bobby earned his B.S. in forestry from Louisiana Tech University in 1964. He owned and operated Smith Timber Company and Bobby Smith Farms. He was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He enjoyed raising cattle and spending time on his farm, but his greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather. His grandchildren will always remember having their Pop in the stands at every baseball, football, or basketball game or in the audience for every church program, school play, or dance recital.Pallbearers will be Adam VanDenLangenberg, Mark VanDenLangenberg, Ben LeBlanc, Austin Ginn, Garland Pipes, and William Pipes.Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 5:30 until 8:00 PM at Ebenezer Baptist Church.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com

Martha and family, I am so very sorry to hear of Bobby's death. I know how hard he fought his illness and he certainly was more successful than many in that fight. I pray for the day when we find a cure for Parkinsons. I had to smile as I read the obituary as it shared his devotion to his grandchildren. I witnessed many of those events at Cedar Creek where he faithfully followed those kids. He was a very fine man, a devoted Christian and I share with your family the feeling of loss.
