Billy was born February 23, 1942 in Jennie, Arkansas and passed away July 4, 2021 in Calhoun, following a 30 year battle with cancer.

Billy graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1966. After graduation, he went on to a long career with the State of Louisiana, eventually retiring as a Vocational Rehabilitation counselor. He received numerous awards for “Job well done” during his 27-year tenure as a basketball referee with Louisiana Independent School System. Billy was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe and currently was attending First Baptist Church-Calhoun. Billy will be remembered as being a good stewart to God’s land. He had a love of animals and enjoyed gardening and most of all visiting with friends and family.

Folks have called him: genuine, a good Christian, a leader, a loving husband, and one who liked to communicate with ALL in the community. Billy was also an avid reader of the Bible and various other books from the local library.

Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, E.M. Hendrix, Carl “Doc” Hendrix Jr., and Doyle Hendrix; sister, Lorice Johnson, Emma Gray Hallman, Ann Weaks and Wanda Fay Hendrix, daughter-in-law, Cindy Hendrix.

Billy is survived by his wife, Mary Hendrix; son, Paul Hendrix; granddaughters, Lauren and Miranda; grandson, Trey; 2 brothers, Scotty Hendrix and John Martin Hendrix; step-children; Brian Crump and wife Tracy and Angela Crump Kidner; 3 step-grandchildren, Blake Kidner, Scott Lenard and Sarah Lenard; 2 step great grandchildren, Hudson Lenard and Stella Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Lee at M.D. Anderson for extending Billy’s life by 30 years after he was diagnosed with cancer, and all the other doctors at M.D. Anderson, and his local doctors in Monroe and West Monroe that played a part in Billy’s health.

Very sorry to hear this news. When I was a kid Billy took the neighborhood on a bike ride from Swartz to Rayville. I made that same ride last Saturday. I thought about him and those days during my ride. He was a great guy. He had an old Volkswagen that he drove to ball games . Paul and I would tag along. I’ll never forget the night we ran out of gas on Oliver rd. Billy was in his refs uniform. He asked a lady on Oliver if he could use her phone. She thought he was an escaped convict in his refs uniform and called the police!!!! Great memories. Rest In Peace.

Mr. Hendrix officiated many of my basketball games when I played at Tensas Academy in the early 1990s. He was a great referee that I will always remember as being fair and honest. Prayers of comfort for the Hendrix family.

I have fond memories of Billy when he visited West Monroe High School where I was a guidance counselor. He became a great friend. My wife and I had the pleasure of taking him and Mary to dinner on one of his many trips to MD Anderson.

Billy was a good man. He helped so many on the road to a better life. RIP friend

I knew Billy from referring highschool basketball.I liked Billy he was just a good person.He came to the hospital when we had our son,he was funny too.We pray that God gives his family some inner peace now at this time.

Mary and family, please accept our deepest sympathy over the loss of Billy here on earth. No doubt he is made well again with the Lord in Heaven. He was a great neighbor, friend and inspiration to everyone who knew him. Dale enjoyed his company so much on their walks and fishing outings. Shared many hours on the basketball court with this fine man. You don't meet many people on earth like Billy. If anyone is in Heaven, Billy certainly is. See you again my great friend. Thanks for the memories.

We are so sorry to hear of Billy's passing. Heaven's gain is truly our loss. Mary we love you and are praying for you.

Prayers and hugs for Billy's Family. I have know Billy since 1974 when he built my son Randy Odom's fist pair of crutches at Crippled Children's and also when he refereed at Prairie View Academy in Bastrop. He was a precious Christian man. He will be missed.

To those who had the pleasure of experiencing this man... I loved this Man of God. He was, and always be a tremendous influence in life, as he was to so many. He will forever be a cherished soul and one of God's chosen. Rest, Billy. You have earned it.

So sorry to hear of Billy's passing. He and I were in college together at Northeast in the 1960's and later ran into each other when he was working for VR. We shared several classes together at Northeast and especially remember our time in Dr. Christmas classes.

Prayers for Mr. Billy’s family. He was always very kind to me when he came in for his appointments.

I am a volunteer pilot for Pilots for Patients. Billy and Mary were some of my first and favorite passengers. I believe I flew them 3 or 4 times. He was always so gentle, friendly, and appreciative. My deepest condolences go out to Mary and the rest of Billy's family.
