A Memorial Mass service for Billie Ruth O’Neal Desser, 98, will be held 12:00 P.M. Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquanis Catholic Church in Ruston, LA.  Officiating the service will be Father Charles Ssennyondo.  The Rosary will begin at 11:30 A.M prior to the service.  Graveside will be held in Junction City, AR under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Billie was born in Junction City, AR on June 21, 1926, and died in Ruston, LA on July 10, 2024.  Her deceased husband, George, died on July 6, 2008, exactly 16 years and a few days apart.

She was first married to Amos Smeltzer and was widowed at a young age.  Her only son, Al Smeltzer, died at the age of 3.

Billie was a Registered Nurse for a number of years until she married George Desser.  From then on, they worked side by side for many years.  Billie always had a smile on her face and was always very complimentary of anyone she ever met.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, a loving daughter, sister, and aunt.

Billie is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Oscar Clarence O’Neal and Juanita Taylor O’Neal; husband, George Desser; son, Al Smeltzer; 5 siblings, Jack O’Neal, Ezelle Miers, Ollie Stolz, Dick O’Neal, and Anita Connor.

She is survived by her sister, BeBe Akin and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
