Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, LA.Betty Lucille Claborn Geisler Siekman of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Pyote, Texas and Monroe, Louisiana, was born March 26, 1934, in Gorman, Texas to Alton Windell Claborn and Alta Olene Crawford Claborn. She died Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016. She was 82.Mrs. Siekman went to Kermit High School where her father remarked that she was the only one in the band who was in-step! She married Dr. James Geisler in 1954 and graduated from Texas Women University in Dallas, Texas in 1955. Her first job as a Registered Nurse was at University Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She subsequently came to St. Francis Hospital in Monroe in 1961. Mrs. Siekman was the Coordinator of Communicable Diseases Care for the State of Louisiana, a Ouachita Parish Public Health nurse, and a Monroe City Schools nurse. She went to work in the I.C.U. at Ward County Hospital in 1980 and then was the head of dietary services. Mrs. Siekman later became the Ward County Health nurse, a position from which she retired with 15 years of service. She married Robert Martin Siekman in 1983. She was also a breast cancer survivor.Mrs. Siekman was active in numerous charitable and community activities in Monroe including as a past president of the St. Francis Medical Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Junior League of Monroe where she served on the original committee for The Cotton Country Collection Cookbook. Her family fondly remembers being gathered in the kitchen to taste-test many recipes. She was a longtime participant with the Miss Louisiana Pageant and Girl Scouts of America and also a member of the Old Monroe Bridge Club. After moving to Texas, Mrs. Siekman continued her good works through volunteering at the West Texas State School in Pyote, Texas. She was voted Outstanding Merit Award Winner of Monahans by the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Siekman was an avid fan of high school sports at her children schools and many will remember when she took her boot off and threw it at the referee at a St. Frederick High School basketball game when she strongly disagreed with his failure to call a foul. She will be particularly remembered for her kindness to strangers and friends alike. Mrs. Siekman befriended people of all ages, race, class, or religion, extending a helping hand to any in need. She truly didnt see a difference in anyone; to her, all people were just part of the same human family.She is survived by her husband, Robert Martin Siekman of McKinney, Texas; 4 children, James W. Geisler, Jr and wife Helen of Hammond, LA., Cindy Geisler Dona and husband Dr. Grant Dona of Monroe, LA., Leigh Anne Geisler Burns and husband Darren of Killian, LA. and Mary Flo Geisler Boleneus and husband Pete of McKinney, TX.; her surrogate son, Jeff Aycock; 11 grandchildren, James W Geisler, III., Frank R. Geisler, Thia Geisler Mandel, Jill Dona, Laura Dona, Kristi Kamerman Robert, Robert Kamerman, Kali Burns Meche, David Douglas, Catherine Douglas Fritz and Alison Douglas; 10 great-grandchildren, Sophie Geisler, Betsy Geisler, James W. Geisler, IV, Grace Amar, Ainsley Lewis, Ethan Bernard, Moses Mandel, Persephone Mandel, Rome Robert and Rhodes Robert; sister, Wynell Claborn Melton; brother, Ozell Claborn and wife Mary Tom; niece, Misti; nephews, Brook and Cody; and by her former husband and longtime friend, Dr. James W Geisler.Her family requests that memorials be made to The American Diabetes Association or The American Cancer Society.
