Betty Woodruff Sheeler, 76, died peacefully at her home in Ruston on November 24, 2024.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. January 18, 2025, at the Presbyterian Church of Ruston. Visitation and a celebration of life will be held after the service.
Betty earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and her master’s degree in Speech Pathology from Memphis State University. She taught in the speech pathology department at Louisiana Tech University, worked in the local hospital setting, and worked as a speech pathologist for the Lincoln Parish School System.
A friend to many, she offered support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She was a cherished member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength.
Betty was an avid bridge player and a member of P.E.O. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, an elder, and active in all the mission programs of the church, especially the Lunch On Us free lunch program. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rev. Joe Sheeler.
Friends wishing to honor Betty are invited to make a donation in her name to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer or to the DART program (Domestic Abuse Resistance Team) headquartered in Lincoln Parish.
Betty is survived by her children: Jeffrey Sheeler and his wife Amy of Benton, AR; Jason Sheeler of West Hollywood, CA; Amy Ward of Ruston, LA and Hunter Ward of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren Lauren Foster of Dubach; Katelyn Foster and Milo Dakin of Ruston; Emerson Ward and Carter Ward of The Woodlands, TX; and Ryan Sheeler of Benton, AR; and great-grandson Cameron Foster of Ruston; her sister, Judy Barker and husband Sam of Jupiter, FL; one niece, one nephew and several great-nieces and nephews.
