Betty Godwin White of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, at the age of 92. Betty brimmed over with God’s love and spent her life in service to others. Prior to retirement, she was a much-loved preschool teacher at Ouachita Christian School. She was a devoted member of Parkview Baptist Church and brought joy, social interaction, and food to homebound members of the congregation for many years. She is remembered by all for her kindness and generosity. Her three sons are forever grateful to her for her heroic efforts to raise them as a single mother.
Betty was born in Readhimer, Louisiana. She attended college at Northwestern State University, and finished her degree at Northeastern Louisiana University (now ULM). She is survived by three children, Alan White, Roger White (Patricia), and John White (Sonia Witte); three grandchildren, Cassie, Amanda Briggs (Nick), and Lilith; one great-grandchild, Layla; two sisters, Gloria Dixon, Kay Dixon; many nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Jackson A. White. She was predeceased by her long-term life partner, Thomas Parker of West Monroe.
The family deeply appreciates the wonderful care Betty received from Ms. Suzanne Silverman and, in her last months, from the wonderful staff at Princeton Place in Ruston.
