John Beasley left a message on December 28, 2007:
Benji - I just returned from a holiday/vacation in the Philippines and checked my emails.  So very sorry to hear about your mother's death and I am sure you all are grieving.  I do wish I could have been there because Mrs. Avant was more than just your mother...she was a 2nd Mom to me as well...I remember so many times just popping over and being invited to eat I had great timing and of course she was a good cook...or staying over the night and being a part of your family.  Your mother was always a warm and welcoming person who had strong religious beliefs and I am sure she has found her way to her paradise.  I understand she had not been well and had a rough ending of life; I know I was not around to see her suffer pain as she grew more ill.  Therefore, I can only recall the happy times and that is my wish for you ... please remember how wonderful a person she was, in spite of whatever grief she may have given you personally ... she loved you the best she knew how and you, sir, are still my friend!  Call me when you get a chance or better yet just write me an email and let me know how to reach you.  I would enjoy speaking with you.  Friends always, John

My thoughts and prayers are with you.  It was my privilege to get to know and work with Betty at United Way.  She was always such an inspiration and resource.  She was probably one of the most godly people I've ever known.  Her faith was so strong that my faith couldn't help but grow just by being around her.  I wish I could be there but have since moved out of state.  Please know I will be thinking of you during this time.Paula Williams
