Funeral services for Barbara S. Johnson, 78, of West Monroe, will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Cedar Crest Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Clark and Rev. Michael Sammons will be officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Barbara was born August 2, 1934 in Monroe, LA and went to be with her heavenly Father on December 10, 2012 in West Monroe. She retired from NLU in 1997 and was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church where she taught Ruth Sunday School Class from 1990 until time of her death. Barbara was director of Kids Hope USA and a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also worked part-time for Kilpatrick Funeral Home and volunteered at St. Francis Medical Center, Strauss Playhouse and Ray of Hope. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Bill Sammons and Frances O'Neal. She is survived by her daughters; Mona Gabriel and husband Jack, Kay Day and husband David; sons, Mark Johnson and Marvin Johnson; grandchildren; John Gabriel and wife Kelly, Daniel Gabriel and wife Mel, Amanda Solomon and husband Russell, Christopher Day, Meredith Johnson and Donovan Johnson; six great-grandchildren; brother; Ronald Sammons and wife Evelyn; nieces and nephews; Mike Sammons and wife Karen, Kim Snipes and husband Eric, Kathy Baker and husband David and Melissa Guice and husband Bret; numerous great nephews and nieces, a wonderful church family and many friends. Her world revolved around her children and her desire to serve her Lord and Savior. Pallbearers will be Trey Snipes, Michael Guice, Ronnie Sammons, Benji Guice, Kyle Baker, Nathan Baker. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Ruth Sunday School class. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cedar Crest Benevolence Fund, Ray of Hope ministries or St. Jude. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
