Funeral services for Arvel E. Newsom, 91, of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden will officiate. Interment will follow at Roberts Cemetery near Kelly, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time Saturday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston..Arvel was born on May 20, 1927 in Caldwell Parish to Robert J and Fannie Dunn Newsom and passed away on February 23, 2019 at his home. He retired from the United States Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was an active member and dearly loved the people of Temple Baptist Church.Arvel was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Mary Newsom; brother, Howard Newsom; and sister, Alene Newsom Brown.Left to cherish Arvel memory are his son: James Michael Newsom of Ruston; daughters: Cathy Dianne French of Poquoson, VA, Patricia Ann Moody of Colbert, GA, and Karen Sue Chapin of Freeport, FL; grandchildren: Rebecca French Skolarus, Michael French, Elizabeth French, Lauren Moody Ligon, Emily Moody Bohannon, James French, and Sarah French; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers: Robert Lindel Newsom and Burgess Gomez Newsom.Pallbearers will be Michael French, James French, Gregory Brown, Dwayne Newsom, Gary Newsom, and Ronnie McLendon.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
